Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
